Molson Coors, the owner of Miller Lite, is standing up for its marketing executives who faced backlash over a recent TV ad. The ad, released in March for Women's History Month, parodies the brand's previous use of sexually objectified women in their campaigns.
Molson Coors defended its chief marketing officer, Sofia Colucci, who was subjected to personal attacks online and deactivated her social media accounts. The company stated that while people can criticize their ads or brands, personal attacks on employees won't be tolerated.
The ad features comedian Ilana Glazer mocking the sexist history of beer advertising and offers to convert old Miller Lite posters with women in bikinis into compost for female brewers. In contrast, rival company Anhighser-Busch faced controversy over a marketing collaboration with a transgender influencer and received criticism for not publicly supporting their marketing executive.
Molson Coors, on the other hand, promptly supported its ad and responded humorously to critics. The ad campaign aims to highlight the contribution of women in brewing and move away from the objectification of women in beer advertising.
